Su-Wei Hsieh, Caroline Garcia move into second round – Beijing International Challengers 2011
Su-Wei Hsieh defeated Japanese tennis-pro Aiko Nakamura 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on Wednesday to book her place in the second round of 2011 Beijing International Challenger Series here in Beijing, China.
Su-Wei Hsieh started the match on a very positive note as she broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Nakamura broke straight back to stay in the set but Cornet showed amazing determination as she claimed four
straight games to clinch the opener.
Nakamura, who looked a bit rusty in the first set, bounced back brilliantly in the following set. Although Su-Wei Hsieh made the first serve break back of the set, the Japanese made a double serve break to earn 5-3 lead in the
set. She then held on to her next service game to level the set score 1-1.
Nakamura looked to attack her opponent as the final set started but committed a fair number of unforced errors in the process. Su-Wei Hsieh was quick to spot the opportunities and made the challenger pay for her mistakes as she
broke the serve three times to seal the contest after 1 hour and 46 minutes of play.
Hsieh’s accurate and well directed serve proved to be the real difference between the contestants as she hit an impressive 75 per cent first serve. She also earned vital serve ace points with her blistering serves. A share of 53
per cent points in the serve return department allowed the Chinese Taipei woman to get in the driving seat.
Nakamura, on the other hand, was unable to handle the pressure and struggled to convert few easy break points. She managed to win only five out of many break chances in the match. The Japanese would be disappointed with her overall
effort as she had done so well to force the match into a decider.
Su-Wei Hsieh has given decent results on the tour since the start of this season. She looked in great form again here in the first round match of on the hard courts of Beijing Tennis Centre but she must up her game play even more
if she wants to achieve similar results against top seeded players.
In another match at the ITF tournament, Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia made quick work of Thai Luksika Kumkhum 6-3, 6-0 in a meeting that lasted for only 56 minutes.
Garcia who is seeded seventh at the tournament, took some time to settle down in the match as she clinched the opener 6-3 with a crucial serve break. However in the second set, she did not allow her rival to breath as she broke
her three times to complete a devastating victory.
