Su Wei Hsieh battles past Irena Pavlovic into the final – Beijing International Challenger 2011
Su Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei battled past Frenchwoman Irena Pavlovic 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday to book her place in the final of 2011 Beijing International Challenger here in Beijing, China.
Un-seeded at the tournament, Su Wei Hsieh has been in great form over the last week or so and now she will be bidding to win her first ever title on the hard courts of Beijing Tennis Centre.
Su Wei Hsieh made an aggressive start to the match as she broke her opponent in the very first game of the opening set. The Taipei woman timed her shots to perfection and moved on court like a hare. With her strong baseline play,
she created several break opportunities for herself and then converted a couple of them to race to an impassable 5-2 lead. Although Pavlovic broke back one to reduce the game score advantage, she failed to stop her rival from earning a well deserved 1-0 set
score lead.
The second set also followed a similar pattern as Wei Hsieh continued to dominate almost all areas of the game. Her serving was on-target and she certainly had a better ranged of shots. Breaking the serve twice in the second set
as well, she clinched a memorable victory in a match that lasted for 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Pavlovic lacked the firepower in certain areas of the game and she paid the heavy price for too many unforced errors including an astonishing eight double faults. The Frenchwoman managed to win only 37 per cent of the points on
her second serve which of course played a huge role in deciding the result of the clash.
Wei Hsieh served brilliantly and hit an impressive 65 per cent first serve. Converting four out ten break points in the match, she played the big points really well. She will be facing Kurumi Nara of Japan in the final on Sunday.
Nara thrashed out Ukrainian Tetiana Luzhanska 6-3, 6-0 to reach that far.
