Su-Wei Hsieh beats Nina Bratchikova to reach round two - Guangzhou Int’l Women's Open 2012
World number 53, Su-Wei Hsieh, bounced back in the opening set to reign supreme over the 94th ranked Russian, Nina Bratchikova, in the first round battle of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open on Tuesday.
She won the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 taking almost an hour and 27 minutes at the hard courts of China.
The Taiwanese player failed to hold serve in the first game of the match and went down to a trail of 0-1. The 27-year-old Russian kept the pressure on and made it 2-0 in the short period of time. The scores kept ticking over without
any breakthrough until the end of the sixth game. The lead was still intact for the Russian at 4-2.
It was the time when the 26-year-old Taiwanese decided to change the gear but instead lost the breakpoint due to a wrong game plan. She was trailing 2-5 at that stage and had to break serve back in order to keep the set alive.
Somehow Hsieh did turned the things around in her favour with a breakthrough in the following game.
Bratchikova failed to hold serve in the 10th game as well and the scores were levelled at 5-5. The momentum was clearly in favour of the 53rd ranked Taiwanese player who held her serve to 40:15 and allowed
just one point to her rival before winning the opening set in the 12th game of the match. A remarkable recovery from the Taiwanese professional was witnessed that helped her to bounce back from a trail of 2-5 to win it 7-5.
The second set was started in conventional fashion. Both players bagged their serve games to make it 3-2 at the end of the five games of the set. However, the pivotal breakthrough came in the sixth game for the Hsieh who made it
4-2 in her favour; retained the lead until the end of the set and booked a spot in the second round of the tournament where she will face-off against the lucky loser Kai-Chen Chang, who was into the seventh game of her first round contest when the top seed
Frenchwoman, Marion Bartoli, withdrew due to an injury.
