Su-Wei Hsieh eases past Qiang Wang to reach the main draw – PTT Pattaya Open 2012
Third seed, Su-Wei Hsieh, dumped the Chinese starlet, Wang Qiang, in straight sets in the qualifying competition at the PTT Pattaya Open on Monday. She formulated a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the 20-year-old Chinese to advance into the main draw at this WTA (Women’s
Tennis Association) International event taking place on the hard courts in Pattaya City, Thailand.
The Taiwanese rising star, Hsieh, stayed on track to grab her maiden WTA title after ousting Wang at the Dusit Thani Hotel. After earning success in this 70-minutes long marathon, she secured a place in the main draw of this event.
Ranked 159th in the WTA rankings, Hsieh self-assuredly entered the Thai courts and held her serve in the opening game. Despite suffering the first blow, she remained focused and not only snatched her break back but also capitalised on another
break chance to go 5-3 up. Hsieh lost her edge again in the ninth game but got breakthrough in the last game to clinch the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The 26-year-old kept momentum rolling into the following set and plucked in her opening serve to take the initial lead. She remained firm throughout the set and earned the critical break in the fourth game, subsequently sealing the success with a 6-3 score
line.
Summing up the Taiwanese’s performance, Hsieh saved two out of four breakpoints she came across and capitalised on four out of 11 break opportunities to dominate. The Taiwanese formulated a lower first serve share of 54 percent as opposed to Wang’s 63 percent
but spilled fewer unforced errors to cover it up. In the end, she finished the match by marking 70 points in contrast with the Chinese’s 55.
Another Taiwanese, Kai-Chen Chang will accompany Hsieh in the main draw. The top seed slaughtered the seventh seeded Turk, Cagla Buyukakcay, with a bagel to reach this spot. Chang broke the Turk’s serve five times and took full advantage of the several
double faults Buyukakcay committed, eventually sealing the deal with a 6-0, 6-2 score line in almost an hour. She impressively earned 18 out of 25 points on her lower first serve share to prevail.
