Su-Wei Hsieh improves career high ranking to world number 39 – Tennis News
Taiwanese superstar, Su-Wei Hsieh, continues to improve and has already broken the barrier of the Top-40 players in the world. She is ranked 39 at the moment that is her career best raking. Last week she held the 53rd
spot in the world but after a stunning run at Guangzhou, she managed to climb 14 steps higher to the ladder of success.
The 26-year-old Taiwanese star entered the Guangzhou Int. Women's Open as an un-seeded contestant but capitalized on her strengths; took out the fourth seed Pole star, Urszula Radwanska, in the semi-final to meet the number one
Briton, Laura Robson, who was also an underdog at the beginning of the tournament.
Robson was looking for her maiden title whilst Hsieh was eyeing to take home the second trophy this season. She won the opening set 6-3, lost the second 5-7 but bounced back from a trail of 0-3 in the final to clinch the triumph.
In a post-match interview, the Taiwanese stated, “I'm very happy to play so well in singles this season. But even though I've done well in singles, I'm going to keep playing doubles too, even more actually - my sister, who is 19 years old, is young and needs
my help, so I'm bringing her to WTA tournaments with me. She's improving fast.”
Talking about her 18-year-old British opponent, she added, “Laura's a great player and has been improving a lot this year, but I don't think she felt comfortable with my game.” The game plan of working with the opponent’s pace
worked in favour of Hsieh. She added, “I used the opponent's power against them. I don't have big muscles so I have to work hard and do that and try to make my opponent run as much as possible."
Hsieh wasn’t in the Top-100 throughout her career except the year 2008 when she rocked the show and reached the 79th rank in the world. However, the breakthrough season in 2012 has definitely helped her groom a lot.
At the age of 26, she has gathered enough experience to sustain the growth process and become the strongest potential candidate to enter the spotlight of Top-20 players.
