Luis Suarez was handed a 10-match ban by the Football Association earlier this week after he bit the hand of Ivanovic when Liverpool and Chelsea met in the Premier League last weekend. There have been many reports since then that
the player will be sold b y Liverpool in the summer as he is ineligible to play for the team this season.
There were people claiming that the club will most likely terminate the contract of Suarez and will be looking for another striker in the summer transfer window.
However, manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the club will not sell the player. He admitted that the player was wrong in the act he did but has refused to admit that Suarez has let him down.
The former Swansea City manager stressed that he will never throw the player out, as it has been claimed in the media for the last few days.
“He's a player that, the standards that are set at the club, he fell way below those because this is a club that's based on that respect and standard. But that doesn't mean he should be thrown to the garbage, which is what has
happened with a lot of people in these last couple of days, and it's certainly something I won't be prepared to do,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician stated that Suarez has admitted his mistake and the issue should be left alone. He added that the striker is thoroughly disappointed and has also apologised to Ivanovic for the foul he had committed.
“The football club admitted it, Luis admitted it, he understood he needed to be punished but I think what we've got is a punishment with absolutely no intention with what was helping the rehabilitation of the player and that's
what's disappointed,” the former Swansea City manager concluded.
