Uruguay forward Luis Suarez lashed out at the Great Britain crowd for jeering him during his country’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of the hosts at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday night.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076 netted the decisive goal in the game which saw the Liverpool hit-man get booed by the fans every time he got possession of the ball.
The defeat meant that the South American team were knocked out from the Olympics football competition, as both GB and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 pocketed five points from Group A to progress into the next round.
Nevertheless, Suarez lambasted the home crowd on their virulent behaviour towards him during the game, and claimed their jeers were an indication that they were scared of him.
He also insisted that he was not affected by the crowd’s hostile behaviour, but was critical of them for jeering the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035’s national anthem, terming it a blatant act of disrespect.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I think they jeer me and they boo me because they must be scared of facing a player like me…I can take the abuse. I don't mind. But I think it was a total lack of respect from the crowd to boo when we were trying to
sing our national anthem. Those things should not happen.”
Despite remaining the ultimate villain in GB throughout the course of the tournament, the forward revealed that the only disappointment he was carrying with him back home was of not being able to win a medal in the coveted competition.
Suarez has remained a controversial figure in English football ever since he was slapped with an eight match suspension last season for his alleged racial assault against Manchester United’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231. Recently, the player accused United of using their
clout in the FA to shape the verdict against him, and viewed his punishment as a conspiracy hatched by the Reds Devils to undermine http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
Nonetheless, the striker’s compatriot, Sebastian Coates insisted that the whole racism episode surrounding Evra and Suarez should be finally put to bed, and criticised the GB spectators for blowing the situation way out of proportion.
He said, “I'm tired of this situation with Luis. I think it has gone on too far and I don't like to see him being treated like this.”
