Suarez or Saha? Everton vs. Liverpool: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 7
England’s top clubs battled it out in Europe this midweek, where only one side from the empire managed to record a win. None of the match ups during that period lived up to the tension and excitement of a good old fashioned Merseyside Derby.
Overview
Kenny Dalglish managed to record a 2-2 draw against local rivals when he returned to the helm at Liverpool and will be looking to record a first win against Everton in his second tenure at the club.
With a number of new signings set to feature for the first time in the derby and with their inspirational captain, Steven Gerrard, still not back to full fitness, Liverpool may find the encounter to be tough.
On the other hand, Everton have not found it easy going this Barclays Premier League campaign, as they have struggled to get some momentum going. David Moyes lost one of his stars, Mikel Arteta to Arsenal in the summer transfer window while Tim Cahill remains
a doubt for the match.
From a Fantasy Premier League perspective, derbies such as this one are a virtual minefield for point deductions. Known for players receiving Yellow Cards and Red Cards galore, the match is one, where if managers are not careful, could do more harm than
good.
We predict a goal scoring draw, not based on form, but rather because the derby means so much for both sides that a win will be by the narrowest of margins. According to that prediction, we shall go through the squad and see which, if any, players might
be able to bag a few points.
Goal Keepers
Believe it or not, but based on current form, as well as the nature of the match, we would strongly recommend that managers field keepers from a different match.
Both, the Everton keeper, Tim Howard and his Liverpool counterpart, Pepe Reina, have been in dreadful form when it comes to earning Fantasy points.
Defenders
If one feels guilty for being cynical and predicting at least one Red Card in the match, he need not be as cards are not only likely, they are a certainty. While the midfield is the most prone to red cards, defenders have been known to get themselves sent
off on a regular basis as well.
Again, best to stay away from this area of the park when picking a squad for Gameweek 7.
Midfield
A few potential candidates come to mind here; namely Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt, who has a habit of scoring against Everton and Marouane Fellaini, who poses a huge threat to Liverpool’s shaky back four from set-pieces.
Strikers
One area where managers can go ahead and feel slightly less nervous when it comes to picking players is the striker position. Everton striker, Louis Saha, may not be the most prolific goal scorer but he seems a different player come derby matches, his lack
of goals withstanding.
However, a better choice would have to be Luis Suarez who is sure to cause problems one way or another with his creativity and pace.
Our Picks: in what is becoming our usual prediction, we would recommend Luis Suarez for the reasons stated above and also, Fellaini. While the latter stands a chance of not scoring, if he does, one can expect a few Bonus points to go his
way.
