Sub box question?

i am going to make a sub box for my apline type r 12" and i have seen other peopls custom sub boxes with the magnet inside the box so all that is visable of the sub is the front. and i have seen boxes whee the front is facing inside the box and the magnet is jutting out., i was wondering what the difference between these two way of installing a sub is. any help would be appreciated.

they will sound the same.

the reason some people do that is if they are really tight on space....having the magnet outwards allows for the box to be smaller because you don't need to account for the sub displacement. if you have the magnet out, you should swap the + and -....this way the sub will remain in phase with everything else.
