I'm planning on buying a sub woofer for my car. Nothing too expensive just a little something extra for my stereo. I'm looking at a 12 inch alpine for my car. I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire...if that makes any difference..which I'm sure it doesnt but you never know. Anways my question is...is alpine reliable? Worth it's price? The one I've been thinking about getting is about $80. I would like to keep it at 100 or less.

What brands would you reccomend? Which brands give the best results? Best sound? Good quality? Long lasting?

I don't know much about car stereos and my local shops will just try to get make a good sale. I just want something not too expensive but reasonable good quality. Suggestions?

  1. there are a lot of subs u can get there are under 100 and are reliable, with good sound. i think the best i've had, that were relatively cheap, were kenwood subs. sony are ok, pioneer are ok, there are a lot of good ones. reliability all depends on the power u run to them, and making sure u aren't distorting the subwoofer signal by running the amp gain too high. u can take a 25 dollar walmart subwoofer and have it last a long time, and sound good if u put it in the right box, and give it the right power with little to no distortion. an alpine sub is a good choice though.

  2. I know nothing about the alpine, but I do know (as crazy as it seems) that a sony xplode is worth the money, and you can almost buy 2 for less than a hundred bucks..I have had four of them 2 10" and 2 12", beat them like they were stolen, and they are still good.. I also have a friend with 4 12", and 2 2000 watt amps hooked up to them and they sound unreal.. last but not least if you dont want to spend alot of money, try going here....craigslist.com.....find your state, the city closest to you, and look under cars and trucks, electronics, and barter, you can usually find great deals there...

  3. If you want the BEST sounding subwoofer brand, go with Pioneer.

    Stay away from Sony's

    Polk=good

    Alpine=good

    Kicker=awesome

    Audiobahn=good

    Memphis=good

    You can have the best woofer available, but if your amp is bad, or if it can't power it. it can ruin everything. make sure your amp is powered correctly to the subwoofer, and that the amplifier is a good brand also.

  4. your going to want to upgrade to a louder system later if you get a cheap system.

    go with infinity or kicker. loud!!
