That was Subaru's old slogan.

What is their new slogan.

Are they still inexpensive and built to stay that way?

I had a 1980 4x4 wagon which had few problems and drove better in deep snow than my Nissan 4x4 PU, I think because it was long, low and lightweight.

  1. I have a '99 Outback with now 170k miles on that I've owned for over three years.  They're very well engineered, excellent winter drivers, decent haulers (as compared to an SUV or a PU).  I would consider my model reliable also.  Only had to replace the battery, brakes and recently a still unsolved overheating problem.  Not easy fixes (except the battery), but still pretty good record for the age.

What I gathered so far from talking to Subie owners is that the 2.5L engine is the better engine (compared with their 2.2L and the new 3.0L 6-cylinder)... although there is a very high frequency of headgasket problems.

  2. It's now "Love, it's what makes a Subaru a Subaru".

  3. Think, feel, drive is the slogan.  No they are not inexpensive they condsider themselves a premium brand now.  The y are still engineered well.  I am a fan of the older ones.
