Hey who out there owns a Subaru STi? I am intrested in buying one, but with rising gas prices I'm not sure that I could afford one. How is gas on your STi? STi owners only answer please I want to know from a owners view how gas mileage really is, thanks

  1. If cost is a concern don't get a STi.  You will definitely use a lot of throttle, and you will get less than 20mpg in mixed driving.

Also, it is a turbocharged performance car, so maintenance is more expensive than a normal car.  Budget an average of $400/mo for gas and random maintenance / car spending

Stick with a non turbo economy car

  2. You can get up to 25 mpg with disciplined driving.  It's easy to be tempted to drive like they are meant to be driven and it will drop to 17-18 mpg.  Really it's worth it though.  If you thing about it, a boring car that gets a few more miles per gallon is only going to save you $20 to $50 a month depending on how much you drive.  I'd rather cut out some hamburgers and beer and have an STI.

To the guy below.  Do you have one?  Are you getting those numbers from experience?  If not, don't just pull numbers out of your ***.  I have one and there are no more maintenance costs than any other car.  Same oil changes and I get 25.5mpg constantly mixed driving.  What are the added maintenance costs.  Every other car has the same parts, just not a turbo.  A turbo on today's car is very reliable and will not cost any extra money.
