Subh-e-Nau Chairperson pledges to promote tennis in Pakistan
The head of Subh-e-Nau, Shahida Kauser Farooq, who is also contesting the Pakistan Tennis Federation elections, has totally denied the rumours of her panel’s detachment from the elections.
While talking to the media in a press conference at the PSB Media Centre on Wednesday, she reflected, “We will not leave the field open, no matter what result may come. We will contest the elections. I have decided to take part in the elections purely for
the betterment of the tennis particularly the poor class which cannot afford to play the game as it is too expensive although they have got the talent”.
Shahida explained that her target to take part in the elections is to further work for the promotion of tennis, which she has been doing quite actively over the last twenty years in Pakistan without holding any office in the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).
While commenting on the presidency of the PTF, she said that it is not an easy job for sure. However, they are all ready for the big challenge ahead and will make every possible effort to provide maximum facilities to the contenders after winning the seat.
Ms Shahida also threw some light on the achievements of Subh-e-Nau by adding that they have distributed prizes worth millions of rupees, sponsored contenders, referees for training outside the country so that they can polish their talent and groom themselves
in order to perform at the highest level of the game.
The Subh-e-Nau has revived the national clay and hard surface tennis events after a break of sixteen years. They have so far conducted a total of sixteen clay and hard surface competitions since then from this platform.
Another major achievement of Subh-e-Nau is the introduction of women’s tennis tournaments in the country, which were hardly witnessed in the past.
The Chairperson when asked about the sporting aptitude in Pakistan assured that our country is full of talented players without any question and it is not only limited to the boys as girls are no less in potential as well. All they require at the moment
is proper guidance and coaching.
Players like Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi have set their names in the annals of Pakistan’s tennis history with the help of their contributions and superb performances at major events on the tour. The 30-year-old Aisam, who made his debut on the ATP World tour back
in 1998 is currently the top tennis player in Pakistan. He won everyone’s heart by making his way into the title battle of the mixed doubles as well as doubles contest at the year’s final Grand Slam, the US Open in New York back in September.
He played the mixed doubles along with his partner with Kveta Peschke whereas in doubles, he teamed up with his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna. Despite losing, Aisam took Pakistan tennis to new levels without any measure of speculation.
Shahida, while pointing to the female talent in Pakistan, declared that they equally deserve and are capable of representing their country all over the World.
During the past eight seasons, the Pakistan Tennis Federation had built a state-of-the-art tennis complex. They, with the assistance of CDA, have constructed the boundary wall of the complex, she added.
“If provided the opportunity to head the Pakistan Tennis Federation, we will take effective steps to help encourage the younger lot besides giving them proper stipend on regular basis so they can concentrate on their game”, declared Shahida.
