Hi,

We're picking our subjects for Year 11 and 12 and I'm having a bit of a dilemna choosing a maths subject.

So far I have

Year 11: Maths Methods Unit 3/4 (basically the yr 12 level, I alraedy did 1/2)

Year 12: Further Mathematics (an easy way to get an ENTER score)

The University courses I'm looking at only require Maths Methods 3/4 and any other, but I'm still worried that if I get a career in engineering, I may not have the mathematical skills required if I don't do Specialist Maths (which I'd do as an extra subject)

Any advice pleasE?

  1. You would probably need the 'specialist math' if you are planning on a career in engineering.

Edit: I just reread your question. Are you looking at the college prerequisites for the degree in engineering, or the prerequisites for the first year courses?

What you will need is algebra, advanced algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations and statistics. Sometimes if you have made high scores in some of these courses in high school, you will not be required to take the course in college.
