Subleasing to rent a new place...?

I share a one bedroom apartment with my sister. I'm in the bedroom and she is in the living room. We got the 1 bedroom to save money and to be in a better area while we look for another place. We are 6 months into our 1 year lease and have found a new 2 bedroom apartment that we would like to move to. We were going to sublease the 1 bed room apartment to a friend or a family member. This is the 1st place that we have ever rented. On the new application for the 2 bedroom should we put down that we are still in a lease or act like we are 1st time renters? Also, is there a way that they can find out?

.    Most people cheat because they won't get the new place if they tell the truth.  But if you sublet and the new occupants don't pay, you owe the money on 2 apartments.  How brave are you?
