Subrata Bhattacharya: Sunil Chhetri is free to leave for Rangers trial - Indiam Football News
Mohun Bagan manager, Subrata Bhattacharya, has allowed Sunil Chhetri to leave for Scotland, where the star will take a trial with the mighty Rangers. The player is due to fly next week
alongside Pune striker, Jeje Lalpekhlua.
It was previously reported that Sunil’s departure to Scotland was questioned by the team manager. Bhattacharya, who declined such claims and has officially allowed the striker to have
 the Rangers trial. He told that he never stopped Sunil from going abroad as the player rightly deserves a chance with a big name club.
The manager opined that it would be a huge achievement for both the club and country to see one of their top players play abroad. He wished Sunil all the very best for his trials and assured
him of full support at every stage of his career.
Subrata, however, refrained from commenting on the player’s possible release should he have a successful trial with the Scottish champions. He left the matters to the club’s higher officials,
but expressed the desire to retain the 27-year-old for as long as possible.
He was all praise for the striker and regarded him as an ‘asset’ for the Mariners. Further commenting on the player’s ability, the tactician added;
"Not only can he score goals, but he looks lively upfront, chasing every ball and keeping the defenders under pressure. He also sets up his team-mates, creating opportunities for them.
I have seen the India match and Chhetri was outstanding there and it was not just his goals but his overall play.”
"He has been in good form in our last two matches, too, and getting goals has also helped his play. I always knew he would get goals and it was just a matter of time." Bhattacharya concluded.
Chhetri is currently in his second spell at Mohun Bagan, having previously represented the club for three years (2002-2005). Since reuniting with the Mariners, the striker has enjoyed
decent goalscoring form with three goals from five league appearances.
The Secundrabad born player earned his Indian debut in 2005 and so far has 50 caps under his belt, bagging 26 goals during the process.
Sunil recently helped India to victory over the ASEAN champions, Malaysia, by scoring two goals during the game.
