Question:

Subs and enclosures?

I've been through my fair amount of systems and I still cant seem to get it right. So, I'm putting it open to all of you to help me figure it out.

I am currently looking to go back to 12's.

My problem is that I love the way a ported box hits but I dont think they sound good, especially with rock. l love feeling the kick drum with rock and hardcore (with all the double bass and all) but when I listen to rap and stuff I love hearing those lows and feeling it kick my butt. I also love the idea of making things fly out of my cup holders and having enough bass to make it hard to breathe.

How do I come across getting the best of both worlds if at all possible?

Also what 12's should I get. I owned a pair of 12 cvrs that were loud as h**l so I'm thinking about going back to those but I'm open to suggestions.

  1. Haha i like the previous respondents suggestion: MTX jackhammer.

But seriously, I much prefer sealed rather than ported because the bass is more punchy. I hate it when the bass drops on the speakers and then 1/4 of a second later the bass drops on the sub.  On the other hand, bass from ported subs are louder and more intense. Its personal preference.   I may be wrong but it sounds like you prefer loudness over sound quality.

I have found the best combination is 2 (or even 3) high powered sealed 10s.  Not as loud as 2 12's but far better sound quality.

Also, it depends on the amp you are using.

  2. my guess is that the ported boxes you have heard were not made and tuned properly. a ported box will always out perform a sealed box no matter what type of music they play if it is properly built and tuned. i would say go with a ported box. if you need one desgined or help designing one...lmk.

as for the subs...kickers are not that great. yeah they get loud, but they lack sound quality and the ability to "keep up" at times with higher demanding beats and bass.

do a search on XBL^2 technology. (http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/XBL2Deta... audio came up with it and since then TC audio (audio pulse) and RE have come up with their own version. this technology has to do with the voice coil winding and provides the sub the ability to keep up with absolutely any freq you throw at it. i have an adire audio brahma 15 in a port box tuned to 32Hz. it keeps up with fast techno kicks and extermely low bass all at the same time with no mixing of teh 2. the result is purely amazing sound quality and extreme power handling at the same time. listen to one of these subs and you'll never go with any mainstream brand again

  3. change your settings on your head unit from goin to rock and rap would be my suggestion and play with the high and low passes on your amp. i like audiobahn and momo and kicker so look at those hopefully it helped

  4. pioneer premier, expensive

but worth it... or just buy one "jackhammer"

  5. In my wifes car i have a rockford p2 10 in on a 620 watt power acoustic, in a tight sealed box, it gives a good range of bass.

In my car i will be going with 2 12's. They will all be fusion powerplants. One will be in a sealed box and one will be in a slot ported box.

This should give me the best of both worlds, I cant actually tell you how good it is till i try it.

If your willing to spend money, i would say use jl audio. The make nice subs that fit in small boxes, with awsome sound.
