Substitute Coconut Cake Question ?

I want to make a coconut cake with a white cake mix. Can I subsitute the water for coconut milk? Has anyone ever done this?

  1. You can substitute water for coconut milk in the cake but you are going to be taking a way a key ingredient in the cake, coconut milk gives it the coconut flavor and adds richness. With water your just going to get regular white cake.

  2. Yes, but it will taste a little sweeter and a bit denser than normal.  I find it only has a mild coconut taste; I add a teaspoon of coconut extract, too.  You can cut back on the oil you add to the cake, since coconut milk is quite fatty.
