So i am just wondering, if you have experience in the field, What are the differences in salary and amount of credits needed to be each of these.... Such as a sub teacher for a high school vs a regular teacher for a high school...with basic degrees.

If you are not experienced in the field...i am having trouble looking for information on the differences of amount of schooling you have to do for each of these...Please provide a link if you can.

  1. Substitute teachers don't get paid nearly as much money!  (Not that teachers get paid much.)

A substitute teacher might get $70 to $100 per day, but starting salary for a real teacher might be $35,000 per year.  And that eventually goes up to perhaps $80,000 many years later.

Real teachers need a 4 year degree, a teacher credential which requires passing many tests and going to more school.

A substitute teacher doesn't need a teacher credential or to pass all the tests.   But she/he does need to pass a basic test.

All teachers have to have a background check with certificates issued by the state.

  2. The requirements and salaries differ depending on the school district.  In the district where I work in New Mexico, subs can have any degree, and have to attend a short training session (a few days).  The pay for a sub is $12.90 per hour.

Teachers can either have a degree in education, or can have a general degree and become certified.  The certification requires a few classes on teaching methods and takes about a year to complete, and also invilves taking a three part test.  Sometimes teachers are hired on waivers, if there is a severe need for teachers.  In this case, you only have to have a degree, and you can complete the certification later.  Starting salary is $30,150.

  3. The salary difference is tremendous.  I would say around a $20,000 a year difference.

I believe that to substitute teach, you just have to have a college degree - doesn't matter which major.

  4. At the school i teach at the salary difference is huge, subs make about 30,000 less and you only have to have a college degree, doesn't matter which major
