Question:

Substitute for cast iron skillet???

I am preparing chicken fettucine alredo and the recipe calls for the chicken to be blackened. I already have the blackened seasoning but the recipe calls for placing the chicken breast in a cast iron skillet over very high heat. It says to blacken both sides of the chicken and place in the oven for 10 minutes, however I no longer own a cast iron skillet. Is there a pan that I can substitute the cast iron skillet for and still come outwith the same results for blackening the chicken? Or is there another method of blackening chicken?

Thanks!

  1. Any pan will do- just be sure it's an oven safe pan.  (Sounds delicious!)

  2. unless you like the burnt taste, don't blacken the chicken.  i never blacken my chicken because it has a tendency to cause heart burn.

But if you want to blacken it, do it in a glass dish in the oven.

  3. There is no substitute for cast iron!  You don't have one?  GET ONE!

Meanwhile, you can TRY with a stainless steel skillet, but it won't work nearly as well.

  4. Cast aluminum. Mine is great.
