People are always trying to come up with good substitutes for plastic.... Why not orange peals??? They disinagrate fast and people throw them away anyway... Because they might disinagrate too fast people could just make only some things out of them.... What is wrong with that???

  1. well people dont really want all their food smelling like oranges. just a common sense thing and also the peels give off a strong odor once they get old

  2. They already have substitutes made from "polymers or polylactic acid. Some of these claim to be fully compostable, meaning that they would break down to organic material suitable for plant growth. " however mixing in the system with non biodegradable makes it almost impossible to recycle bags.

The best solution obviously is just to just use tote bags and backpacks and reuse all the bags you acquire as trash liners, to protect your produce, and well as normal everyday shopping needs.

  3. Believe it or not but part of your skin is made of polymers (plastics), so is the boiled white part of an egg.

Yes, starch, protein and your DNA are polymers (commonly called plastics).

So you see, there are biopolymers and synthetic polymers.

Polymers have mechanical and chemical properties which makes them now key in a lot of applications.

Some polymers are also pure combination of carbon and hydrogen atoms and when burned release less pollution than wood being burned.

Polymers can also be bio-compatible and save your life as long-term implants.

What we want to do is to:

    - reduce the quantity of plastic wastes

    - use less energy to produce plastics

    - use less fossil fuels to produce plastics

    - substitute polluting processes by clean ones

    - reduce the risk linked to some plastics (e.g. dioxine from vinyl).

    - increase the qualities of plastics
