could i put dark gravel in the bottom

and then use this on top of the gravel

instead of as a backdrop

then cut holes in the moss wall and plant plants in the gravel through the wall

  1. Instead of doing that for the whole tank and then cutting holes for other plants, why not just use it for a portion of the tank, like a front corner extending into the back, or a "path" of moss up the middle, with the path getting smaller as it winds towards the back of the tank?  A bit artsy, but it'd look cool, and wouldn't give the impression of a moss-dominated tank.
