  2. It cant equal anything unless u have a value for y.You can simplify it by subtracting both -2y and 4/2y because they have like variables. So simplified it would look like (1/2)y^2-4y-2. If it is equal to zero you can find the value(s) for y by using the quadratic formula. this would mean y=.472136 or y=8.47214. But i don't know the problem or what it is u are trying to do?
