  1. Red Line to South Station and Take any train to Back Bay Station, Walk up Dartmouth Street To Copley Station and take the green line E train to Longwood Medical Area Station and just walk down longwood avenue

  2. Red Line From Harvard Sq inbound to Park St.  Change at Park St to Green Line D train outbound to Riverside, get off at Longwood stop and walk from there (4 minutes)

  3. There's a shuttle bus from Harvard to the LMA that might take you door-to-door in half the time as the subway.  http://www.masco.org/transit/ptsM2.htm

Could also take the 66 Bus, take a look at the linked MBTA map. Sometimes the buses are quicker than going in to the center and then out.  They run every 10 minutes or so during rush hour.

As for the subway -- Dpower is very correct, but Mr. Abbot has you going a convoluted way that makes no sense.

The walk from Longwood T Stop to the LMA (Longwood Medical Area) is beautiful. You go through the Riverway, a wonderful park along a river. In October, you'll participate in the changing seasons.
