Subways logo is "Eat Fresh"?

How come the tomatos at my local subway in Commerce Township, Michigan are often green/white instead of RED? Also, the green peppers are there turn orange!

The kid (aka "manager") at my local subway says his stores tomatos turn green because the tomatos are "out of season".

He didnt tell me why his green peppers were turning orange or why his lettuce is always turning brown.

I thought Subways logo was "Eat Fresh"?

Plus the bread often taste hard-and-crusty like it's "one day old" bread (just like their rock hard cookies - when they even bother to make the cookies).

One day the roast beef actually turned a gross yelloowish-pink color. I couldnt believe they would openly display it through the glass for everyone to see. Yuck.

I know it's Subway but for $8 I expect my food to be somewhat fresh.

  1. Most Subways here in the UK are c**p

they are a waste of money!

  2. sometimes it's just easier and cheaper to go to the grocery and buy what you'd like on a sandwhich and make it yourself. Then you can pick out what looks good and you will have plenty for more sandwich tomorrow.

  3. Green  tomatoes indicate that the tomatoe was picked before fully ripening on the vine, this is done to prolong freshness and lessen damage in shipping. Orange on the peppers indicates they have been on the vine a little longer than neccessary but does not hurt them, it actually enhances the flavor. Can't speak to the roast beef without seeing it but it is ok for it to have a kind of iridescent look I don't remember why but I have seen this explained before, the same goes for ham. Bread needs to be covered so as not to dry out but if they cover it while still warm it could produce too much heat causing it to get soggy.

  4. They might slap it together fresh - but our local shop has tomatos that look like they have been stewing in their own juices for a week or two...

YUK - I don't eat it (or most other chain food stores either eg Mackas, Hungry Jacks, KFC etc)

  5. thats probably just a really bad subway.

the subways around me are never like that!

you know what i do hate about subway though? how they always act like they're the healthiest things ever! you can get a somewhat healthy meal at a lot of fast-food places, people just go for the junk b/c it tastes better to them. and they make it seem like as long as it's a subway sandwich it doesn't have a lot of fat. they dont even include the cheese in their 'fat count' in the commercials! ughh, annoying...

    sorry, im ranting.

  6. Some Subways are just no good. If you're really THIS concerned about it, call up Subway central. It's part of their franchise contract to keep their store up to snuff, and you can always call them in on it. They'll get busted.

  7. Once lettuce has been cut it  is very hard stop brown edges and it has to be cut up ahead of time or it would be very slow to make those sandwiches. Maybe he should stop using the middle parts and only the outer green leaves.

Many green peppers have orange tinges, this is not because the pepper isn't fresh, There are orange peppers(yellow and red ones too) sometimes its just a slight genetic flaw.

It also could be the lights he is using in the food case, since its a franchise I would email the company and tell them what is going on this is the customer service site: http://www.subway.com/Applications/CustS...

  8. I am not eating Subway anymore.  The last time I ate there, I got sick as a dog.  There food is so not worth the trouble.

  9. Our Subway is awesome.  Its the hired help that leaves something to be desired.

  10. i love subway !!!

wow, i can see your point though ! i don't like the sound of that place !

  11. leave subway alone, its good quick food which tastes  ahell of alot better then some of the rubbish u can buy

and its healthier then most fast food

    =P

  12. Subway bakes their own bread daily. First thing in the morning, probably when you're still in bed.

If the tomatoes aren't red it is because the supplier is getting them that way. Tomatoes are green (not fully ripened) before they're red. Did you know that all bell peppers are green first. Some stay green and others turn red, yellow, orange, or purple. How many tomatoes are growing in Michigan in March?

Wow, you like to whine about Subway yet you eat there. Geez.

  13. subway sucks .. if you live in the south, get your subways from Publix.

  14. the quality of tomatoes and peppers are often a reflection of what the supplier brings to them , i am sure they have a budget to work within and a tomato or pepper that is not fully ripe is one that keeps well and is cheaper to buy .there are all sorts of grades from produce and often you need to order a better grade if that is what you want.

  15. Quality varies from place to place... you just happen to live near a really crappy subway restaurant. You should probably report that place so no one gets food poisoning.

  16. Subway is good and fresh.

  17. i worked at subway last year in auburn maine and our veggies were always fresh and cut daily and tomatoes were always red and peppers always green. the bread was baked numerous times a day and was always soft.

  18. sounds like you need toreport this subway to the health departmart to subway's complaint department

  19. subways, is GOOD!
