Subwoofer / Amp help (how to match ohms)?

I've got a Lightning Audio Bolt 12" 150 RMS Watt Subwoofer. In the specs it says that this is an 8 Ohm and according to a website i found its a dual coil..

how do i match the ohms of this sub to an amp?

  1. dont worry you can just wire it down to proabably 2 ohms cause if you look for a amp your not gonna find one for 8 ohms so the dual voice coil most time you can wire that down to either 1,2,or 4 ohm. just need to read the manual it should show you how to do so.


  2. Wire the coils in parallel to get a 4 ohm load. Look for a mono amp that's 150 watts RMS @ 4 ohm.

  3. if you have a single 8ohm dual voice ciol sub....connect the +'s together and the -'s together. when you hook it to the amp, the amp see it as a 4ohm load.

    wiring them in parallel like this drops the ohms...wiring the in series will increace them.

    car amps are 4ohm at X watts per channel....sometimes they can go down to 2ohm per channel.
