Question:

Subwoofer - Do they make adapters for the wire connections in the back of a subwoofer?

I'd like to use a RCA cable to plug in my Subwoofer to my receiver. The problem is that my Sub has speaker wire connection in the back, while the receiver uses a RCA connection. Any ideas?? Thanks!

  1. That will not work!

The sub will need something different. I suggest that you include the model number of both the receiver and Sub to get a proper hook up. More than likely you will need a bandpass set up thru the front speakers to give amplification.

  2. I you cut one end of some rca it will work but that is only if the subwoofer is powered and not passive

  3. I have never seen these they are probably available online but

'You can make these yourselve if you get the rca plugs from (radioshack) the source. and wire them.

All you need is a soldering iron for tools,

A couple of small lengths of wire, elecrital tape (brush on tape works well) and the RCA plugs.

Connect them.  The outside part of the RCA is usually positive (+) and the prong is negative (-)  Solder the wires to the two parts of the plug they are isolated from each other and isolate the wires from themselves with the elecrical tape.

hope this helps.  If you plug the cables the wrong way you could damage the subwoofer.

  4. "42" is correct. This will not work.

    Here is the rule:

    - RCA cables are "line-level". The signals carry no power to drive speakers.

    - Speaker wires are POWER wires - they contain enough watts to drive speakers.

Let me guess - your subwoofer is NOT self-powered? (no AC power cord).

If it has 2 speaker inputs and 2 speaker outputs - you can do this:

Run your L/R speaker wires to the inputs on the sub. Then run more speaker wire from the L/R outputs to your left & right speakers.

Go to your receiver and tell it your L/R speakers are LARGE.

This is the classic way of hooking up a un-powered subwoofer.

    OTHER OPTION:

Do you have an old stereo receiver lying around?  If so, do this:

    - Run the subwoofer output from the main receiver to the Left CD input on the stereo.  Run speaker wire from the Left speaker output on the stereo to the sub.

    - Play a bass heavy track and staring with the volume at 0 on the stereo - slowly turn up the volume until the bass is at the level you want.

(You are basically using the old stereo as a subwoofer amp).

  5. you could go from the speaker outs on amp directly into sub using speaker wire and and then back out of sub to your main speakers  use controls on sub (volume,cross/over) to adjust to your needs

  6. they make the rca tips that you can just splice into the wire... just check out like radio shack or www.Cablestogo.com is a good website with all of your cable needs
