Question:

Subwoofer Silent??

I have just purchased a Yamaha HRT-6080 stereo receiver to replace an old Sony. I have my sub plugged into the sub (pre-amp out) on the receiver and the in on the sub (both via RCA Sub cable) yet nothing plays. If I hold the RCA just right on the sub it does get feedback and hum. Would you say that this is a cable that needs to be replaced or is there a sub ON/OFF setting with this receiver that is not explained in the manual?

Any help will be appreciated.

  1. You may have to set the speaker level higher. Page 48 of the manual will walk you through it.

Well then, I doubt the cable is bad (the hum is from your fingers touching the connection) but the only thing I can think to try is a new one. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help.

  2. before you do anything else I would take it back to the store and exchange it. after all these things are made in all parts of the world other then America! Japan, Korea, Indonesia, etc. so if it still don't work thern is in your amp.....GL

  3. I had that problem a couple of times. Go into the receivers "menu" (as archaic as they can be) and try to find a sub on/off feature. If the sub is indicating  <off>, turn it <on > and see what happens.
