Subwoofer box 3 cubit feet vs 5 cubic feet

so I have this kicker 15" CVR model.

what would be the difference lets say with a box of 3 cubic feet plus port at 35 hz and this other 5 cubic feet plus port at the same 35 hz.

also the booklet from the cvr says 3-5 recommended box volume plus port they mention the port for the max volume 3 by 15.5 and 22 inches long.

I called them and they gave me different sizes for my "massive bass" box they say we have 5 cubic feet and 6.5 cubic feet, we recommend for your available space 5 cubic feet of box plus port with a 50 square inches and 15" long, and this will give that bass you want at 33 hz,

so that's what they told me, but no program or formula outthere gives me that tuning frequency........I tried WinISD, and other resources, it actually gives me about 36-37 hz,

so what's up WHO IS RIGHT, kicker company or what?

  1. L = (1.463 X 10^7 X (h*w/pi) / (fb^2) X Vb) - 1.463 X (h*w/pi) ^0.5

  2. I would give this website a try Im planning on making a custom box for my 15inch CVX, but do to the avil space in my hatch the biggest i can make my box is 4cubic ft with the port tuned to 32hz.

  3. well a box of 5cu' and a port with 50sq" needs to be just under 19" long to be tuned to 33Hz. (i could tell the port was too short just by looking at the numbers....lol)

i have noticed this issue with kickers box plans....they don't seem to account for port displacement....which is exactly what they did in your case....which is really not good because to get an accurately tuned box you can not count the port's volume....just like you can't count the subs volume. i just helped out a guy who had the same issue.

bottom line: kicker is dead wrong....

o...for the record....tuning has very little to do with the sub....it comes from the box and port. so every box that is 5cu' w/ 50sq" of port needs have a 19" long port to be tuned to 33Hz regardless of the sub that is going into it.

  4. If kicker is giving you that information I would be they would know what they are talking about for their models. The more cubic feet of workable space will give you more bass. Go with kickers specs. this will be your best bet. Simple computer programs give a ballpark figure based on every manufacturers products. Not one single product.
