Subwoofer for my car?

Question

Hi! How's it going? Alright, i'm shopping for a subwoofer for my car and i am very uneducated in this matter. I know i'l have to get a good amp and perhaps two speakers as well with the sub. I have a 2007 honda accord (4-door). Could you please advise me on the best possible solution?

I'd like to get the best compromise between the loudness & the sharpness/crispness of sound.

Please also advise on the size of the woofer, etc etc

I have 2 12inch Alpine Type X subwoofers and they are loud I they can handle 3000 watts of power (each one) and I am only running 2000 watts of power to both of them and they are just crazy loud.  They were pricey when I got them and I needed a different alternater so it coud send proper power to the subs. I found some online recenty and they are only 245 a piece when I got them back in 2005 they were 500 bucks a piece. Before that I had a L7 15 kicker which was loud also but not as loud as even one of these sub that I got now.

I think you for a beginner you could get either 1 12 inch type x or 2 10 inch type x if you have a dealer that sells alpine near you, you should go and just listen to them and ask to listen to one of the competiters subwoofers you will here the difference.

Also go to youtube.com and just look up Alpine type x subwoofer and you could see how hard they pound and how it makes your car rattle.

oh, when buyin a amp and sub, looks at RMS watts, peak watts mean nothing, its a marketing tool, usually cheap manufactures of cheap amps and subs, display like 2000Watts , to sell their inferior product, look at RMS.  i would say get 1 10 or 12 inch subwoofer and amp, which produced about 200-300 watts RMS, it should be enough, plus amps have bass boost if you want more bass or less bass.  match the RMS of the amp and subwoofer , they closer the match of RMS the better (ie. amp 250 Rms, subwoofer 250-270 rms), also go with the known brands, dont get anything cheap it will sound like c**p, dont get like walmart type brands (ie clarion subs etc etc)  , get alpine, pionner, kenwood, JL audio, MA audio,

i would say go for one bass tube..that would be around rs.4500..

u will need an amp for it which would cost around the same..

You want a SQL setup, SQL means Sound quality with a side of loudness.

Here's the thing, to suggest anything we need a budget. Because what you can get is all based on a budget, I mean I'd say go get a 12" x*x and a Zapco amp and a custom built transmission line box, but that's most likely going to be more than you want to spend.

I would recommend Kenwood sub woofers and speakers, for the sub woofer encasing, I would recommend Q-logic, and for the ''deck'' Kenwood as well, you'll also want to get 2 6X9s (Pioneer)  for the rear of the car, the subs however you'll put those in the trunk under the 6X9s, the amp (Kenwood or Sony X-plod) you should put under the drivers seat (in case your heater core goes out, it will drench the floor board, even though it's a 2007), last but not least, I recommend 10'' or 12'' subs, and make sure that the amp is around 150 to 200 watts less than your speakers all around (subs mainly).

What subs you should get depends on several things.

Are you going to be keeping the stock radio?

Are you going to be keeping your stock speakers?

If so, then you should probably go with 2 10's or 1 12. Anything more than that would be so loud that it would drown out the sound from your radio.

Everyone has their own favorite  brand of subs, just like everyone has their favorite brand of car. One brand isn't always necessarily better than the other, although plenty of people will swear by their preferred brand.

I personally like kicker - can't go wrong with solo barics.

One 12" solo baric L5 with a zx500.1 amp will do you quite nicely.

Since you want crispness, I'd definitely suggest getting a sealed box - not ported, vented or bandpass. The main benefit of having a sealed box installed is the crispness that you don't get with any other type of box.

if you want to keep your stock speakers in your car and save a few bucks they are actually pretty decent  also made by panasonic  specificaly for honda you dont sound like you are tryin to be heard 2 blocks away so 1 sub would be good  if you dont want to spend a ton of money go to ebay and look up powerbass subwoofersthey sound really good for the money and they are dirt cheap they will handfle more power than sony and quality of sound is overall better hope this helps
