Subwoofer gets warm?

hello my alpine types s 12inch get warm when play them loud. is this normal? or am i driving them to hard?? THanks!

  1. its normal from friction


  2. be sure you have some sort of port in your sub box.....this will allow the subs to push out the air......if you dont have ports or slots speakers will work harder then usual

  3. I seriously hope there is no friction, you want absolutely no friction what so ever, if you are then there is something wrong with the alignment of the coil in the sub woofer.  The heat is natural and it is from the heat being dissipated from the sub woofer receiving power from the amplifier.

    As for a port, that has nothing to do with the amount of "work" the sub woofer is doing.  In a sealed box a sub woofer can reach higher levels of excursion.

  4. it is normal for the dust cap to feel warm....the coice coil inside has power going through it and can cause this from hard play. just keep an eye on it, it should be fine.

    adding a port ...lmao! a port is for tuning, not heat displacement. do not cut a hole in you box for this reason, it will sound like c**p if you do.
