Right now I am using a cheap $20 subwoofer interconnect cable and I am tempted to buy a nicer monster cable. Is there really a difference?

  1. depends on the sub and the application, anyone who answers before that is disclosed is just wrong. Try again guys. Tool

  2. What sub? What amp? what source? I would echo the sentiment that details need to be provided. As well as you the listener should buy a good set and see if the difference is worth it. After all you think it is the cable and you are the one that needs to be happy.

I will add that some here knock monster (I never said they are the best mind you) and hock for mono-price and bluejeans cables. I don't think their cables are any better than what you could make for yourself for much cheaper.

  3. Just get a good sturdy RCA to RCA cable that is long enough to do the job.  $20 sounds about right.

Monster cables are usually way over hyped and priced

The only difference is you will have less money in your wallet.

  4. Cables tend to be like water pipes. A soda straw cannot handle fire-hose pressure.

Subwoofer frequencies are between about 7-120 hz. Very low frequency, very narrow range.  So any decent RCA cable tends to work fine.

Higher frequency video cables - different story.

You would be better off playing with the position of the sub in the room and using an SPL meter to match the mains to improve your sound.
