Subwoofer levels adjustment. please help.?

i just bought 2 jl 10" w3v3 2 ohm subs,along with a jl audio 500.1 slash v2 amp. i have a 97 mustang. i was wondering what should i set all the filters and frequency levels at? i dont wanna blow my amp or subs. i am a mechanic. i know how to wire cd players and beat up, but i dont wanna ruin 1000 dollars worth of equipment. please help me if you know about tuning amplifiers. note. i listen to rap mostly but i also listen to rock.

  1. The gain (or level) is the most important.

    The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

    You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 at Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

    Set the LPF to just below the highest frequency of the frequency response of the subs. Example, if the frequency response is 20 - 200Hz, set the LPF to around 180Hz.

    If you use the bass boost, don't put it above 2dB.

    The phase should be at 0.
