Success story of Indonesia and China in the openers of 2nd Asian Games Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament
The 2nd Asian Games Women’s Beach Volleyball is underway in Muscat, Oman this week. The championship was kicked off on Thursday, 9th December, 2010. The women’s event greeted 25 duos and grouped them in four pools. China, Indonesia,
Syria, Maldives, Laos, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan have sent their teams in the tournament. The opening day of the tournament featured two matches in each pool and first preliminary round officially started out. In Pool
B, Indonesia’s Riris/Ritri came across Hoa Mai/Hong Phan of Vietnam, while Huang Ying/Yue Yuan of China contested their abilities with Syria’s Dareen/Safaa. Indonesian and Chinese teams dug up success and celebrated victory on the first day of the tournament.
The beach volleyball fury will go on until December 16 and there will be more exciting matches in the progression of game.
Riris/Ritri (INA) vs. Hoa/Hong (VIE) 2-0 (21-16, 21-18)
Both teams descended in the court with their athletic shoes on to keep their feet warm. Riris of Indonesia ignited the fire with first serve. She took a bigger run up and rolled off the ball in Vietnam’s half. The wind held the ball in air for a little time,
while Hong Phan received it with poised hands. Afterwards, the game saw an exchange of fast spikes over the net. Indonesia was quick to score early points while Vietnam was yet to be on the board. Gradually the game picked up more pace and two sides attacked
aggressively. Vietnam put up great struggle but Indonesian pair successfully got them under pressure. They hit the ball with full power and didn’t leave a chance for Vietnam’s players to return it. The first set ended in Indonesia’s favour as they exhibited
better game. Ritri closed the first set at 21-16.
After dropping the first set, Vietnam’s team came up with a different strategy and tried to cover the deficit of the first set. They attacked aggressively and hit in the corners. However, Indonesia duo was ready for the counter attack. They tackled the speedy
spikes with a lot of skill and re-bounded the ball in Vietnam’s court. Despite of great effort and determination, Vietnam’s team couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat in second set. Indonesia posted 21-18 and pulled off victory in the first match on December
9.
Huang/Yue (CHN) vs. Dareen/Safaa (SRY) 2-0 (21-12, 21-9)
The Chinese duo had recently played at the 16th Asian Games in China and enjoyed a great form. Syria was not a potential threat for them in the first match. They opened the match at average speed and played a natural game. Huang Ying of China
produced wonderful serves and earned points for her flawless aces. Yue also put her magic in the game and created more trouble for the weak Syrian players. Dareen and Safaa of Syria traded places with each other and tried to put up with the heavy strike of
Chinese team but they failed to stop them. China’s team bagged consecutive points and achieved the set-point at 21-12.
Huang/Yue took full advantage of the first-set victory and kept an upper hand on the Syrian side in second set. Syria was drafted under pressure which caused them more damage. They were down with too many unforced mistakes, while China remained ahead in
the game. China built a strong lead and further widened the gap of points. Huang was simply on fire as she worked out great shots. She jumped on every opportunity and smashed the ball in opponents’ half with precision. It seemed as if the ball just needed
the touch of her hands and it promptly landed in Syria’s half. They paved their way to success in second set as well and won the match.
