Success story of Jordyn Skinner of Hilltoppers  – Volleyball News
Following the success of the Western Kentucky University's Volleyball team at the WKU Tournament in third week of the season, the junior outside hitter (OH) Jordyn Skinner was named Player of the Week. She settled for the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National
Player of the week award, as acknowledgement for her wonderful performance during the home campaign. The Western Kentucky Team (Hilltoppers) pulled off success in three matches of WKU Tournament and defeated teams such as West Forest, Xavier, and Louisiana
State University (LSU).
With this honour, Skinner became the second Lady Topper to get hold of this award in the programs history. Before her, former middle hitter Amanda Schiff won the same award in November, 2003.
20-year old Skinner plays as the outside hitter (OH) for Hilltoppers and she has been a great contributor in the overall success of her team. In the running season, she has played a big part in achieving the 10-1 win/loss record for Toppers. At the WKU tournament,
she built a great momentum and demonstrated her skills in every aspect of the game. She was also named as Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, last week. Overall, the team made a clean sweep and remained unbeaten at the home soil. They finished the
week with the final score of 3-0. Skinner was credited with 80 kills with a hitting percentage of .321. She acclaimed 5.71 kills per set. Not only she did a great job at attack but proved her skills as an excellent receiver. She notched 50 digs in four matches
with a ratio of 3.57 per set. Moreover, Skinner dismissed the opponents’ attack attempts via 13 blocks.
She maintained a perfect record of double-doubles in kills and digs in three out of four matches during the tournament.
Western Kentucky was challenged by Xavier in the first match on last Friday, Sep. 9. In the tournament opener, Skinner played with full potential and recorded 29 kills. Ironically, she fell short of just one kill to make a new school record. Likewise, Skinner
supported Western Kentucky with 19 kills in the next match against Wake Forest. The volleyball action continued on the third day and Skinner pushed things harder against LSU. She collected 21 kills in the third match and totalled 70 kills at the weekend.
The Hilltoppers continued with success in the next week and defeated Tennessee State in the fourth match, where Skinner recorded 10 kills.
In one of the last week matches of Hilltoppers, the Head Coach of LSU Fran Flory passed his remarks about Skinner. He stated: "We started to try and do too much against Skinner especially in those last two sets. We had her under control early, but we didn't
stay as focused on her as we needed to. She was able to get into her rhythm, put some balls on the floor and seize momentum when they needed it most."
The amazing performance of Skinner proves that she totally deserved to be selected as Player of the Week.
