Question:

Suck at running!!??

I am not fat by any means, but I really am out of shape. I cannot run and if I try, I can only run for 45 sec intervals. Please don't laugh, because this really bothers me. I want to be able to run with no problem and for at least 5 mins. Any ideas???

  1. i used to be JUST like you seriously...i was the worst person ever at running, id run like a minute and then stop not even because i was tired but just cause i didnt really like it....but thats just cause i never used to do any running when i was young....just try get fit and do like an hour excercise everday even if its power walking/cycle/swim, but push yourself so that your tired then eventually work up from that and youll be able run a few miles no problem thats what i did, you should def try it...


  2. run as long as you can and then walk, then run, walk, run, walk. since you are not that in shape, you should start out doing this every other day and then gradually lengthen your running intervals and shorten the walking intervals.

  3. Try running at a slower pace.

    Try and push yourself farther each time you go running. Although your progress may seem slow, you will really notice a difference eventually.

  4. just go 5min as slow as u want w/o walking and after a while ull be able to do it fine and then once u get a good pace down for 5min then move up to 10min then 15,etc. part of running is mental strength. u have to be able to push urself and not stop just bc u get tired. keep practicing and increasing ur time and pace and ull get better! :-) good luck!

  5. try going swimming

    swimming really helps with your breathing.

You might be running too fast that's why you can only last 45 seconds.. slow down a bit and keep practicing.  don't rush it.. it takes time. try to not stop until you are soo tired you're going to faint or something cause if you stop every time you feel a little tired then you're not going to improve

  7. If it is a good day just run around your house every day for about 10 minutes a day. Try to jog the whole way. Also you could go to the gym or go on the tredmill. Also you should run around the block or on pathways. Also if you walk a lot it will help your running. Taking hikes also help

  8. 45 seconds? You might be just underestimating your own abilities. After 45 seconds you feel winded and freak out and say I can't do this. The truth is you can do this. You would be amazed at how much the human body can take and how far you can push yourself if you really wanted to. I would get a check up from a doctor first just to make sure their are no underlying medical problems and then if all is well just keep running, just a little at a time. Don't quit right off the bat. push yourself. I am 49 and have only been running for 2 years. I run no less than 2 miles (my easy day) the rest of the time I run 4.5 to 8 miles depending on my training schedule. Diet and rest are important too, althoug I ran a half marathon on 3 hours of sleep because I was keyed up. PUSH PUSH PUSH! I usually start out wondering why I did this and the after I have about a mile or so in, I hit my tempo. My breathing evens out, I have gotten used to the lactic acid burn in my legs and my body temperature becomes comfortable. This time of year it is easy to get hot fast and thus you are ready to quit sooner. I don't know where you live but my Autum you will be more comfortable.  Keep it up and good luck.
