  1. Common plecos wont breed in a normal home tank, they just need more space than you can provide. Sexing is tricky and involves close examination of their vents.

    At 8-10" they may only be 1/2 grown.

    Breeding has been reported in HUGE tanks, but they are normally bred in big outdoor ponds in tropical areas.

    Some of the smaller pleco species like Bristlenose and Zebra plecos that only grow to 4-5" can be bred quite easily though.
