They usually reach sexual maturity at about 8 years of age. There is no way to tell the age by looking at it. Growth is based on feeding, so some tortoises of the same age can be significantly bigger or smaller than each other. The only way to tell its age is to know when it hatched. And as far as living outside, that's up to you and your outdoor setup. A baby could easily slip through any small holes in the fencing and could also be vulnerable tp predators, so I'd leave it inside until it's at least bigger than a baseball.

sulcata's reach sexual maturity at about 10-15 years of age, unfortunately you can only tell a tortoises real age if you have had it from hatching, you can roughly guess the age by the size and the wear on the shell but it will only be a rough guide, it is recommended that you keep a sulcata inside until about 5 years of age, if the weather is nice and sunny and you have high temps you can put them outside In a secure pen after about 2 years of age but they do need to be brought in a night or if the temp drops, sulcata's need quite high temps the ideal temp for them is about 80*c but not dropping below 70*c here is a site that might help you on their care http://www.sulcata-station.org/index.htm... best of luck honey
