Question:

Sudden cavities? What happened?

I'm 40, have never had a cavity my ENTIRE life, I'm an oral hygiene fanatic and all of the sudden my dentist tells me I have 3 cavities (one deep and 2 shallow) and a bunch "on the watch". What happened? I went to the dentist 6 months ago, and he didn't say anything. Is there an explanation for this? I'm really worried.

  1. I'd get a second opinion.  The first person was unfortunately correct... there are some bad dentists out there.

  2. Now I've heard stories that sometimes when doctors or dentists are doing poorly some of them tell you that you have something wrong to make more money.

    Did you recently...

    Change dentists?

    Get a new toothpaste?

  3. it might be a drop in calcium levels. Do you have any problems with your parathyroid gland? they regulate calcium. You might want to get it checked out just in case. or are you having perimenopause signs?

I got my first cavity after having my first baby and I too am a oral hygeine fanatic. I have had 1 cavity for each child(weird). I have extremly healthy and hard teeth. My dentists says that pregnancy affects calcium and women who have no prior cavity history often get them after a change in calcium levels like from pregnancy or hormonal issues. Don't sweat it, you didn't do anything wrong. just get the cavity filled before it becomes a problem for you.
