Question:

Sudden change in sleeping habits - driving me mad!!?

My daughter, who has just turned 2, has always been fantastic at going to bed. She's got a great routine, and usually settles without a peep.

However, for the last 10 days or so she's been a total NIGHTMARE. I think she may have been a bit ill in the beginning, but she's absolutely fine now. Whenever I put her to bed she whinges crying 'mummy daddy' for absolutely ages.

I'm going to have a sweep on Monday to try to deliver our second child and I'm really worried that this is going to be a problem when the baby is home. I have to deal with it myself because 5/7 nights my hubby is working as a chef, and I'm frightened I'm not going to cope.

It's so upsetting after she's been amazingly good at going to bed for the past 18 months! I don't think it's talk of the new baby that is unsettling her, it's just her trying it on, but even doing the 'crying down' routine just doesn't seem to be working and I'm losing my temper and my sanity! Please help!

  2. POOR PARENTING??? if that the case then 90% of the people on this earth have poor parenting skills. Every child goes through a time where they push their parents buttons they want to know what they can get away with and see how far you will go for them. they are very smart. I seen this on the nanny. There was a little girl that was doing the same thing. You are supposed to go in there every 10-15 minutes just to let them know you are still there and that you do love them but DO NOT take them out or conversate with the child. simply go in and say its bedtime you need to close your eyes and then walk out. hope it helps

  3. Hi,once you have the baby bey your daughter turns her attentions to it.maybe she is sensing your stress.

    Good Luck

  4. She definitely senses that there are changes on the horizon with a new baby in the works.

I can offer you suggestions but my best one it to seek the help of a professional. Buy Dr. Marc Weissbluth's 'Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child'. He offers tons of usable suggestions for sleep habits and issues from infancy (which will help you establish routines with your new one) through school-age (which will give you some ideas with your 2 year-old). I love this book and keep it in my nightstand as a constant resource.

    Best of luck to you!

  5. This may seem simple, but have you asked her?  I'm amazing sometimes at what my son can tell me.

On a more practical note she may be scared of something.  I know my niece started wanting to have her door left open and the hall light on and a night light right around 2.  Both her and my son (18 months) both like to hear the normal sounds of the house, so if you are trying to be quiet, that might be making her worried that you are not there.  Kids are funny like that.

  6. please try to contact Sure Stard health advisors. i am very sorry to hear that, you could try talking to your health visitor may be she will advise u.

  7. It's the terrible two's!  She probably also can sense a big change coming up and may not know how to handle it.  I would say if she cries for you just go to the door and tell her to close her eyes and that it is time for bed and then shut the door and leave.  Or you could just let her cry herself to sleep because she eventually will.

  8. OK 10 days seems like an eternity because you are tired and ready to deliver your second BB. Try soothing her and patting her down for a few minutes, maybe sing a little song then leave the room and let her cry for 10Mn's..if she does not come down...go back and repeat the patting and soothing and then leave again ...this time for 20Mn's...crying never hurt a BB. ad keep doing it til she re learn the routine.. don't loose your cool she is just a BB and testing you! don't scream or get angry because she will then know how stressed you are.Hope it works for you. good luck.

  9. Again, a case of poor parenting. You must use your size advantage and let the little stinker know who's boss, before she ends up in prison like your cousin Frank
