Question:

Sudden irregular heart beats and shortness of breath.?

I'm 14 years old, about 107 lbs. and a normal diet. For the past couple of weeks, about 2-3 times a day, my heart will start beating really rapidly and I can feel it in my chest beating. When this happens, it's kind of hard for me to breath until it's over. They hadn't been that bad until today when I was walking around in Target and all of a sudden my heart started to beat weird and I couldn't breath. It lasted only a couple seconds but it was worse than the others. I do not do anything that could cause this like running or moving a lot. I don't have any known conditions or anything. After it happens, my heart beats funny for a couple minutes but that eventually goes away.

Is this anything I should be worried about? Should I go to the doctor now or wait and see how it turns out?

Thanks!

  1. Go to the doctor!

  2. Unfortunatly its a medical term called death

  3. Sorry,no one on line is going to answer your question. You have to make an  appointment to see your Dr. for diagnostic tests such as blood work, ecg and a holter monitor for starts. You need to see your Dr. very soon and go into emergency if it happens again.

  4. You need to see a doctor - it could be high heart rate (which is very dangerous) and that could be caused by stress or any number of other things.  It could be heart palpitations, it could be high blood pressure. These things can cause major problems in the rest of your body as well.

Anything to do with your heart or breathing needs to be checked right away.

    Don't wait.

  5. It sounds like you are having Atrial Fibrillation.. which is dangerous... It can cause a blood clot and a stroke... The first thing I would ask you is are you drinking energy drinks or lots of soda..Excessive caffeine can cause the condition you  are speaking of... you should see a doctor... but most of all if you are consuming energy drinks or soft drinks .... stop now... Due to your age Id guess your drinking energy drinks.. if not you sure need to see a doctor.. it is a problem.. Also people who starve themselves and lose weight rapidlly have this problem.. cant think of the name of the condition.. but if your losing weight and not eating anything .. it can cause it.. and can be extremely dangerous... deadly
