All of a sudden this morning the water pressure to our entire house dropped from great no problem pressure to a slow trickle.... We still get luke warm water but not hot water and when the water is on cold it does the same low low pressure.

We have a house watersoftner (not sure if that is an issue)

  1. maybe you sprung a leak.

  2. You can eliminate the softener by opening the bypass valve on the back of the softener. You did not mention if you were on city water, or well water. If city, they may be flushing the system. This can produce very low pressures. If on well, you may have ruptured the bladder in the pressure tank. Hope this helps.

  3. You might 1st try opening an outside faucet, if it also has no pressure, there is a leak somewhere. If the outside has lots of pressure check to see if the water softener has any restrictions. If on community system look at your meter, there will be a little triangle above the readout. With everything turned off in your house it should be stationary, if it is spinning you have a leak on your side of the meter and will be charged for the loss of water. You may then want to turn it off at the meter until it is fixed. If you are on a well, listen to see if it is running or not.

If you have an electric water heater, and the water drops below either element, it will fry and no longer heat the water. If there was a system failure contact them about the repair, (some will pay for it). It there is no check valve on the line into your house you should add 1 to prevent damage to water heater elements in the future.

  4. It's most likely the city water.  Even if they've restored their system, if they got a large air pocket in the system it will take a while for pressure to return to normal.

  5. The local water company may be doing work on the lines, or you may have a big leak somewhere, or some serious pluggage going on
