Question:

Sudden symptoms, could someone help?

I had a fever last night and I woke up this morning with a fever still. Even though it has gone I still don't feel well. I have a headache that will not go away, my entire body aches and is very weak, my ears aren't ringing exactly but it feels like i'm underwater. Its really difficult to hear, it is hard to swallow, and I keep having hot and cold flashes.

I'm 19 years old and besides this, in good health. I'm puzzled by the sudden sickness and I'm concerned it might be serious. Does anyone know what is wrong with me or should I go to the hospital.

Thanks.

  1. Do you have any mosquito bites?  Perhaps West Nile.  My Dad recovered from this last summer....

  2. Doesn't sound serious to me. I assume it's still the fever, or the aftermath of one. Just ride it out for a day or two more. If these symptoms still persist, I suggest seeing a local doctor.

  3. Most likely you have a viral illness.  Onset can be sudden and cause the symptoms you are describing.  Rest, drink plenty of fluids, take ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) for the fever and body aches and you should feel better soon.

High fevers (above 102) that do not respond to fever reducing medications, or that are accompanied by a severe headache, neck pain/stiffness, and rash need immediate medical evaluation
