  1. there are mannnnny different types of dance and each style can be portrayed infinite number of ways because of the many dancers who perform it. i dont want to shoot your dreams down but SO You Think You Can Dance is very hard to audition for.. those dancers have been dancing their ENTIRE lives and are veryyyyy talented. I say go for it and try it because when you have a goal in mind you can find the steps to reach it.

common dance types are ballet lyrical jazz hip hop and tap.

beginners should start with ballet training because that will provide core strengthening and technique for any style of dance.

any type of dance can be the hardest depending on the technique and moves you are trying to sccomplish.

my favorite is lyrical because you can express your feelings through the musicality and emote and give the audience a story. it is the easiest for me to relate to.

    hope this helps!!!!

  2. Contemporay, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Modern, Latin, Tap

  3. :) Everyone, including me is getting interested in dancing ALL OF A SUDDEN because of So You Think You Can Dance ha ha ...

The most common dance depends on where you live.

I suggest hip hop or jazz, they are good for begginers.

Hip hop makes your dance moves look impressive, trust me. Though it may be a little hard because of the speed but I'm sure you'll get used to it. Acrobatics is helpful though, it's always handy if you know how to  do a trick or two ...

Also pilates and yoga helps if you are doing ballet, lyrical, ballroom, or acro.

The main styles of dance are probally ballet, jazz and tap.

Contemporary, ballroom, hip hop and acrobatics are also quite common in the world of dance.

DO NOT, ever, ever, ever (ha ha I did this with one of my answers, I said ever about 1000 times literally but I won't annoy you by doing it to you) ever, give up. Unless you start hating dance or whatever.

You have to be able to hand critisism well, especially in auditions like SYTYCD (you know what Nigel's like!). Especially if you are a male, you will have to handle critisism from family, friends, and idiots who think male dancers are stupid. They're not.

Also never tell yourself you're too old to start dancing. Hey you know Gev from SYTYCD? He started breakdancing at 15. And I know a guy who got into an audition for some dance show and he only started dancing a year ago. He's amazing.

But also remember some people are just born to dance, they're just naturally good at it. So don't get upset if you think someone's better than you.

Here are the types of dance and information about them:

    House

Like Disco, House is most commonly associated with a style of music, but House dance is actually older than House music – which was popular in the '90s – rising to popularity in the 1970s. House dance is a style of street dance which is largely improvisational which an emphasis on fast and furious footwork, and fluid movement in the torso. It draws styles such as the Lindy era, African, Latin, Brazilian, Jazz, Tap, and even Contemporary.

    JFH

A fusion of the standard dances styles of Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop. If you head along to a typical dance school, you're most likely to see JFH classes on offer, giving participants the best of all three energetic, earthy worlds!

    Burlesque

s**y, bawdy and humorous, the term burlesque refers to a theatrical entertainment style which originated from the streets in the 19th century. Cheeky burlesque blends satire and performance art with a tongue-in-cheek emphasis on striptease and other forms of entertainment – including dance – that all have a rather saucy edge! The costumes and sets are generally lush, dramatic and colourful, referencing the titillating aesthetics common at the height of its popularity in the early 20th century.

    Quickstep

The energetic Quickstep evolved in the roaring '20s from a mish-mash of popular dance styles of the time, including the Charleston, the One Step and the Foxtrot. An international Ballroom style, the elegant Quickstep may look similar to a fast Foxtrot, but its uses different technique and patterns. If you want to master the Quickstep, you must look smooth, glamorous and light on your feet.

    Bollywood

The term Bollywood generally refers the film industry in India, one of the largest and most successful local film industries in the world. When it comes to dance, Bollywood refers to the dancing performed in these colourful films, which are generally musicals, and feature singing as well as performance. The dance styles are based on a blend of classical Indian dance and Western dance styles such as Jazz and Hip Hop.

    Popping

Falling under the Hip Hop umbrella, the street style Popping is generally believed to have evolved in California in the '70s. The term was coined by Boolaloo Sam, founder of the pioneer popping group, the Electric Boogaloos. This funk dance is based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing your muscles to cause a jerk in the body – a 'pop'.

    Lambada

Who isn't seduced by the forbidden dance of love? The word Lambada refers to the wave-like motion a whip makes, an apt description for the way the dancers move when performing this fast, sensual Brazilian dance. It became internationally popular in the 1980s.

    Musical Theatre

Musical theatre generally refers to a form of theatre combining music, songs, spoken dialogue and dance. So as a dance genre, musical theatre refers to the dancing within a performance, which is generally very dramatic, expressive and entertaining.

  7. Lots of dances require fixed steps (like the tango). If you're looking for something to take slow (2-3 years) and create your own style, bboying is the way to go.
