Sudirman Cup 2013: Lee Dong Keun tames Wong Wing Ki in Men’s Singles – Badminton news
Korea’s talented player Lee Dong Keun showed his aggression on court and easily defeated the Hong Kong’s in-form shuttler Wong Wing Ki in Men’s Singles encounter at Sudirman Cup 2013 in Malaysia, on Monday, May 20.
The in-form Dong Keun, who has been looking for a breakthrough at international level for the last couple of years, played with greater level of confidence and remained successful in beating Wing Ki in style.
Korean shuttler was quite composed in the arena as he did not play any risky shots at any stage. He was very quick in taking the bird and managed to finish up the contest in 39 minutes with a completely dominating 21-16 and 21-15 score on the board.
Meanwhile, Wing Ki failed to match the pace of his young Korean challenger. He could not produce power in his shots and also failed to place his shots in right areas. He tried to elevate his play but failed to create any impact and eventually lost the match
in straight games.
It was a wonderful fight in the starting rallies when Dong Keun showed a wonderful display of his craft in the arena.
The speed of the rallies was very fast in first set and Dong Keun impressed local crowd with his tremendous craft.
Dong Keun did not show any sign of confusion as he remained in complete command of the pace until the end of first half.
The match progressed in the similar manner after the mid-game interval as Dong Keun did not lose his commanding position in the arena.
It was an uninterrupted ride for the in-form Dong Keun who did not face any tough opposition from his rival and won the first game with a comfortable 21-16 difference on the board.
In the second game, Dong Keun played with sound speed without sparing any room for Wing Ki to find his rhythm back.
The perfectly executed smashes and spinning net shots kept Dong Keun ahead of his rival all the way until the end of first half in second game.
Dong Keun was quick and positive on court in the concluding points of second set and won the second set with a stunning margin of 21-15.
