August 16, 2011 – Seattle Storm vs. Phoenix Mercury
On August 16, Seattle Storm arrived at the US Airways Center to face Phoenix Mercury. Although Seattle failed to put up an upright performance, however Sue Bird was an exception yet again. The prolific All-Star point guard chipped
in a game-high 23 points, handed out eight assists and added some sanity in an otherwise forgettable night.
Bird lifted the momentum in the first half of the game as Seattle held a 43-28 lead. However, Phoenix completely shut down Storm in the second half. Bird ended on 9 for 16 shooting from the field and 4 for 4 from free throw line.
September 2, 2011 – Seattle Storm vs. Tulsa Shock
On September 2 at the BOK Center, the All-Star point guard once again showed her brilliance against Tulsa Shock. Bird led all players with 21 points, including a three-pointer with 37.4 seconds to go, as Seattle staved off an upset
with a 78-72 victory over WNBA’s worst team last season.
Bird, who topped the 20-point mark for the fourth time during the regular season, dished out five assists and ended on 7 for 12 shooting from the floor, including an outstanding 4 for 5 beyond the arc.
Trailing by 23-17 after first quarter, Bird turned it on in the second period and racked up 10 points to put Strom ahead by 40-34 at halftime.
September 3, 2011 – Seattle Storm vs. San Antonio Silver Stars
Playing on the road, Bird chipped a team-high 15 points in Seattle’s 70-60 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars on September 3 at the AT&T Center.
Bird, the first overall pick of the 2002 WNBA Draft, dished out six assists and grabbed four rebounds for the winners. Trailing by 8-4 early in the opening period, the two-time WNBA Champion answered with a shot from downtown and
two lay-ups to put Seattle ahead by 11-10. Bird did not score in the second quarter and added just two points in the third quarter. However, the Syosset High School product turned it on in the last quarter of the game and racked up seven points in the last
ten minutes of the game, including a pair of free throws at the end.
Bird closed the game on 5 for 8 shooting from the floor, including 2 for 4 from three-point range, and 3 for 4 from the line.
