Sue Bird stars as Seattle Storm defeat Washington Mystics 72-55 - WNBA Recap
Playing in front of their home crowd at the Key Arena, Seattle Storm were able to turn things around in the first quarter to go on to win 72-55 against the visiting Washington Mystics on Sunday night, earning their fourth win in
as many games.
Sue Bird shot the ball 5 of 10 from the field and had 2 three pointers before finishing the game with 14 points to along with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Ann Wauters managed to put up 14 points and also had 7 rebounds in the game.
Camille Little and Katie Smith had 9 points each in the game while Tina Thompson came off the bench to chip in with 9 points.
“I think we're playing better, but I think there is still more to go,'' Bird said after the game. “We still kind of have some lapses here and there.''
On the other hand for the Mystics, Crystal Langhorne shot the ball 9 of 15 from the field to finish with a game high 21 points. Matee Ajavon contributed 11 while Noelle Quinn mustered up 10. The efforts were however of no use as
the Mystics fell to a win loss record of 2-8 to start the season.
The biggest problem for Washington in the game was their lack of productivity on the offensive end. They could only convert 34.9% of their shots whereas Storm shot the ball well above 50% on the night.
Washington got off and running as they raced out with a 7-2 run to start the game. However from that point on till the end of the period, Storm outscored the Mystics 13-4 to take a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
It took Seattle almost 8 minutes in the second quarter to prolong their advantage into double figures and at the midway point of the game; they found them-selves ahead by 31-20.
In the first 3 and half minutes of the second half, both team managed to score 8 points each, but in the next three minutes, Seattle scored 5 unanswered points and by the end close of the third quarter, they were leading 52-37.
In the early stages of the fourth, Washington looked like making a charge as they opened the quarter with a 5-2 burst. However Seattle regained control quickly and never allowed the Mystics any chance to make a comeback.
To top off an impressive night, Storm closed out the game with a 6-2 run to hand out a 17 point drubbing to the visiting Mystics.
