Sue Bradburne to retire from training at season’s end
Fife trainer, Sue Bradburne, has decided to bring the curtains down, as she will put a full stop to her splendid career at the end of this season.
The veteran handler will join Nick Alexander as an assistant trainer after her retirement. The 1999 Grand National was highlight of her 24-year training career, when she guided Blue Charm to second position in the mega event.
The list of her ace trainees includes some big names, such as General Chandos, Interim Lib, Off The Bru and On The Hooch. Recalling sweet memories of her fantastic career, the 63-year-old said:
"I have been so lucky over the years to have had great owners and some wonderful horses. Obviously it feels like the end of an era, but I am really excited about joining the team at Nick's and our various meetings have established that we have a very similar approach to training and horses."
Bradburne alongside many owners will move to Alexander’s yard next month. Alexander is delighted to have Bradburne in his training team. He admired Bradburne for her magnificent training skills, adding that her experience will be invaluable for the yard.
“I am delighted that Sue and her owners have shown this confidence in me and the team here at Kinneston. I am sure that the arrival of such an attractive bunch of young horses will enable us to accelerate the progress we have made over the last few years,” he added.
The lady has been unlucky over the last couple of weeks. During last 14 days, none of her runners tasted success. On March 24, Elmaatigra completed the order of finish in the NSPCC School Service Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Kelso.
In the Betfair Racing Excellence Conditional Jockeys' Training Series Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield on March 23, she was represented by Northern Acres, who was unable to do anything special.
The last decent performance came from Bradburne’s yard was Or De Grugy’s fourth position in the STP Construction Handicap Chase. Although victories seem to have dried up for the veteran handler, nobody can point finger at her wonderful abilities.
