Suffolk v Northumberland - Minor Counties Championship - Match Recap
Suffolk crushed Northumberland by 328 runs in a match of the Minor Counties Championship, at the Osborne Avenue, Jesmond in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
The hosts had to chase down 508 runs for victory, but failed to get anywhere near the target. The entire team was dismissed for 179 runs, as only three of their batsmen managed to reach double figures.
Earlier, the visitors were put into bat by the Northumberland skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marc-Joseph-Symington-c74381. The pitch had some assistance for the bowlers, as there was some moisture beneath it.
However, Suffolk managed a challenging first innings total of 232 runs. Although none of the players managed to make a significant impression, little contributions helped the team take the total past 200.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Philip-George-Edwards-c82066 also batted well, collecting 32 and 33 in their respective outings.
The hosts’ skipper did a fabulous job with the ball, picking up five wickets in the innings.
Northumberland did a decent job with the ball, but it was just the half job done for the team, as they had to post a solid first innings total as well.
However, the batting failed miserably for the home team and they were all-out for 179 runs in their first outing. Symington, who had earlier taken five wickets, was terrific with the bat as well. He top scored the innings with 61 runs, but there was no support
for him from the other end.
James Finch used the conditions well, picking up a six-wicket haul in the innings.
Suffolk gained a very good momentum in the game and carried that into their batting, as the team piled up a massive second innings total of 454. The team had lost just four wickets in the process and their skipper finally decided to make the declaration
after gaining an overall lead of 507 runs.
The visitors’ second innings was dominated by opener Hasan Adnan, who top scored with a magnificent 236. He remained unbeaten until the declaration was made and struck 28 fours and two sixes in his impressive knock.
Adnan had terrific support from wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-James-Warn-c50850, who also stayed not-out until the end, collecting 115 runs.
The home team’s bowlers were spanked to all parts of the park, as they failed to take wickets. Symington managed to dismiss one batsman, but failed to rescue his side from trouble.
Northumberland had lost control of the game and just had one option of saving the match by batting out the entire day. The team failed to do so though, and was bowled-out for the same total, which they achieved in their first outing.
Middle-order batsman, Daniel Young, scored 75 runs, but there was no support for him from the other end, as the team lost the match by 328 runs in the end.
James Finch did a terrific job with the ball in the match for Suffolk. He took three wickets in the second innings.
