My oven is broken and I really want to make some good sugar cookies! Are their alternatives? Like making them on the stove like pancakes or something?

  1. It's not really sugar cookies but--

    Stove-Top Cookies

    Powdered sugar or flaked coconut

    1 cup granulated sugar

    2 large eggs, lightly beaten

    1 cup chopped dates

    1 tablespoon butter or margarine

    2 cups crisped rice cereal

    1 cup chopped pecans

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

       1. Sprinkle powdered sugar or coconut evenly onto a parchment or wax paper-lined 15 x 10 x 1-inch pan. Set aside.

       2. Combine sugar and eggs in a large saucepan; stir well. Add dates and butter; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, 8 minutes or until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat; stir in cereal, pecans and vanilla, mixing well.

       3. Spread cereal mixture evenly onto prepared pan. Let stand for 15 minutes, then roll the mixture into a 15-inch log, beginning at long side. Let cool completely. Cut into 1/2-inch thick slices.

    Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.

**if you google 'stove top cookies' there's plenty of recipes for things like this!! I'm not sure now they turn out, but it's better then nothing, right?

  2. I know at the restaurant Cheddars they have a dessert called the Cookie Monster...it's a chocolate chip cookie that's cooked on the stove in a small skillet and it's awesome!  If I were going to try it I'd start with something really small and just see how it works out, that way you don't waste a lot of the dough if it doesn't work out and you see what temperature you need to cook it at and if you need to flip it, etc.  Good luck, sounds tasty!!

  3. I would definitely try making them in a frying pan, just because it would be a fun experiment! My personal thought would be to make the dough quite runny, more like a pancake batter consistency probably. Maybe you should make the batter as usual, then alter very small portions of it in different ways until you find the one that works best. I kind of wish I was at home right now so I could try this yummy experiment too!

Ah, I just remembered that last fall I found a recipe for a fried cookie on recipezaar. I didn't like that particular recipe so I didn't save it, but you could go there and search for fried cookies just to help you decide how to handle yours.

If that doesn't work, consider mixing them up and going to a friend's house to bake them...then you can share! Or maybe an elderly neighbor who would appreciate the visit?

How about a toaster oven? Maybe some kind of microwave baking dish?

As a last resort, get some already baked cookies from a store or bakery...not the same, but it might help the craving for a while!

And please report back, I can't wait to read how it went!

  4. nope! try toaster oven

  5. I'm not sure if you want to take that gamble...but I suppose you could always try? The problem is that sugar cookie dough doesn't have as thin a consistency as pancake batter, so it would probably just become tough.

There are a lot of stovetop, no-bake cookie/bar recipes, but most of them contain peanut butter, chocolate and oats as a staple. Maybe you could settle for one of those, or just swing by the store and buy some premade sugar cookies?

  6. Eurghh you probably could but I don't think they'd turn out very nicely lol

An oven is the best way, you'll just have to wait :/

    oh well
